A long-serving Assistant Professor from a well-known engineering college in Bengaluru resigned after a decade of service citing salary stagnation and lack of recognition in a Reddit post that has now gone viral.

The professor, a 37-year-old man, joined the institution over ten years ago and things were fine until 2019, when, according to his account shared on Reddit, a new principal took charge and closed down three branches of the college.

Despite the professor’s consistent efforts, including staying late till 8-9 PM for accreditation work and financially supporting students in competitions, his repeated requests for a salary increase went unanswered, the anonymous post read.

“I did everything and never said no to any job assigned, but my request to increase salary was never approved,” the professor wrote. Despite his students being happy with his teaching and providing excellent feedback, he found himself in a position where junior colleagues were being paid more than him. The situation left him "clueless" and demoralised.

Attempts to discuss his concerns with the principal were met with indifference, he said. The principal refused to meet him alone and insisted on the presence of the Head of Department (HOD), who, according to the professor, had been supportive of only a few faculty members while delegating difficult tasks to others.

Frustrated with the lack of support and recognition, the professor decided to resign. His resignation was met with silence. “Nobody asked why I was resigning and nobody asked me to stay,” he wrote.

Adding to his discontent, the professor revealed that changes in the salary structure further diminished his benefits. The Dearness Allowance (DA) was reduced from 115% to 30%, with the remaining 85% being reallocated to other allowances, which he says will significantly reduce his gratuity by at least 50%.

"Honesty and loyalty have no meaning in this world," he concluded his post and found sympathisers in the comment section.

“It is sad that this has happened to you. This is injustice, I thought educational institutions are safe and free from these kind of practices. This world is becoming cruel and evil everyday. No value for good people,” one Redditor commented.

Many requested the user to share the name of the east Bengaluru college.

“Please name and shame the institution. If you are not comfortable naming it, you can always hint about the college, location etc and people will know and you will be in no trouble,” one user wrote.

A third shared their own experience. “I worked at a place for 9 years and they’re shutting down business without informing me in advance. Loyalty is just not valued.”
