Global sporting events once again captured the imagination of Indian viewers. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the Paris 2024 Olympics collectively drew billions of views, underscoring the country’s enduring passion for sports. Cricket remained a perennial favourite, with its content dominating searches and views on the platform.

Cultural moments further defined the year’s digital landscape. The Ambani wedding alone garnered over 6.5 billion views across videos with "Ambani" and "Wedding" in their titles.

Meanwhile, quirky internet phrases like "Moye Moye" turned into viral sensations, amassing 4.5 billion views.

Figures of national and global significance also inspired millions. Videos linked to Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh generated nearly 4 billion views, while Ratan Tata continued to capture the admiration of audiences with his enduring legacy and appeal.

YouTube’s report highlighted the influence of content creators who captured audiences with diverse and innovative storytelling. Global sensation MrBeast topped the charts with a staggering 332 million subscribers, but Indian creators also shone brightly. Sujal Thakral amassed 33.5 million subscribers, while Filmy Suraj Actor drew 32.5 million followers, reflecting the growing global reach of local talent.

Other creators, including Cristiano, Box of Vengeance, and the Stokes Twins, further diversified the creator ecosystem. Indian creators excelled on Shorts, with hyperlocal content in regional languages such as Marathi and Garhwali transcending borders and appealing to global audiences. Creators like Priyal Kukreja championed women’s voices, while meme-based cricket content, celebrity wedding coverage, and relatable short-form videos captivated millions.

Music remained a cornerstone of YouTube’s appeal in 2024. Chart-topping songs like “Kurchi Madathapetti” by Sahithi Chaganti and Sri Krishna, “Jale 2” by Shiva Chaudhary, and “Aaj Ki Raat” by Madhubanti Bagchi and Divya Kumar became defining tracks of the year. YouTube Shorts added to the music craze with hits like “Dhana” by Priyanka Meher and Rongpaz and “Tauba Tauba” by Karan Aujla, which inspired remixes, dance challenges, and fan covers, significantly extending their lifespan.

One of the most remarkable trends of 2024 was the rise of active fan participation. Viewers moved beyond passive consumption to become co-creators of content. From cricket memes and music edits to reactions to celebrity weddings, fans added layers of creativity that amplified the original narratives, making them even more impactful.
