A 15-year-old boy in Gujarat has been arrested for killing his girlfriend's Umargam police in Valsad district on Thursday arrested a 15-year-old boy for the alleged murder of his girlfriend's four-month-old son. According to the police, the boy decided to kill the baby because he wanted to marry the girl but was afraid that his family would not accept her with the child.

The incident happened in Surat's Umargam. The girl had left the baby in his care while she went out to work. The mother is from Kerala and had been married to a man but separated during her pregnancy, the Times of India reported.

Elaborating on how the couple met, the police told the publication that the girl, whose age has not been revealed, went to live with her sister in Gurugram where she met the boy. They got into a relationship and moved to Mumbai only to return a month ago. The girl would go to work during the day, entrusting the baby in the boy's care.

On January 13, she suddenly received a call from him claiming that her son had fallen off his arms and died. When the mother rushed home, the boy repeated his story. She believed him and with the help of their neighbours, they buried the child. But the girl got suspicious after the boy vanished the next day. She approached the police and filed a case of accidental death. The baby's body was exhumed and after a postmortem investigation, it was revealed that he had died of a head injury.

The boy was traced and arrested. "During questioning, he confessed to killing the child by smashing him against the floor," a police officer told the publication.

The accused was produced in a juvenile court and was sent to an observation home on Friday.
