Reliance Industries subsidiary Jio launched its almost 'zero cost' JioPhone on July 22 at the company's 40th Annual general Meeting. While a few details of the phone were revealed, some are still missing.
The JioPhone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 205 mobile platform, the chipmaker revealed in a tweet. The 205 mobile platform is for bringing 4G LTE to feature phones.

What's the best part? The platform brings in features that will not only improve the phone performance, but does not hamper with the battery life.
The platform provides Linux as the operating system and will have dual core CPU with speed up to 1.1 GHz.
With this, the JioPhone will have Snapdragon X5 LTE modem and LTE Category 4 (downlink) with a download speed of 150 Mbps. the peak upload speed will be 50 Mbps.
The platform also supports voice over Wi-Fi for calling services. It can support a camera of upto 3 MP and can capture videos of up to 480p at 30 FPS (frames per second).
It also allows video playback of up to 720p.
The platform has Wi-Fi standards of 802.11a/b/g and supports Bluetooth version 4.1, has satellite systems support GPS, GLONASS and A-GPS.
USB 20 version is compatible.
While these are the features of the Snapdragon 205, it is not necessary that all will be available in the JioPhone.
The JioPhone offers features like:
- An Alpha numeric keypad
- 2.4 inch QVGA display
- FM Radio and Torchlight
- An SD Card slot
- A four-way navigation system
- Apart from these the phone will come pre-loaded with Jio Apps such as JioMusic, JioCinema and JioTV.
Reliance Jio will open pre-booking for the phone from August 24 via the MyJio app, website and Reliance Digital stores.
