Maruti Suzuki is working on its next launch in the MPV segment, dubbed the XL6. Based on the already popular Ertiga, the upcoming crossover has received many upgrades and changes.
Spy shots of the crossover first surfaced a month ago, followed by more images without camouflage. Since the XL6 is based on the Ertiga, it retains certain elements of the MPV. However, it also gets fresh aesthetics and fresh fascia.
The XL6 borrows some of its body panels and tail lamps from the Ertiga, but it gets an upright nose, a flatter hood, a new grille and prominently angular headlight units with LED DRLs. Its ride height has also been increased from the Ertiga and it gets plastic cladding around the side skirts. It also sports wider wheel arches and roof rails. The rear bumper sports a larger black cladding and a faux diffuser.
If the XL6 gets a captain seat arrangement, it will be a six-seater MPV as opposed to Ertiga’s 7-seater capacity. It can also get an all-black cabin design, unlike Ertiga’s beige interiors. Though it has not been officially confirmed by Maruti Suzuki, it can be expected that the MPV will get the company’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, with a 7-inch touchscreen with phone app connectivity.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to equip the XL6 with a 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid motor borrowed from the Ertiga. It makes 103PS of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque. It is expected to be mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The company could place the XL6 between the price range of Rs 6.45 lakh- Rs 11.21 lakh (Ex-showroom). It will be pitted against Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy among others.
