Kawasaki Ninja RR Mono revealed in Indonesia

Kawasaki revealed the Ninja RR Mono (or the 250SL as it was rumored so far) in Indonesia today. As the name suggests, the Ninja RR Mono is powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 249cc petrol engine that produces 28PS of power at 9700rpm and 22.6Nm of torque at 8200rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and claims to achieve a top whack of 153 kmph with the bikes 151kg kerb weight.The Ninja RR Mono is a fully faired motorcycle and the silhouette is much similar to that of the Ninja 300R. However, the Ninja RR Mono features a single-pot headlight assembly, which looks out of place with Kawasakis current design philosophy. The bike has sleek dimensions measuring 1,935mm x 685mm x 1,075mm (length x width x height) with 100/80-17 and 130/70-17 section tyres at the front and back respectively. The Ninja RR Mono employs a single, 263mm petal disc at the front and a 193mm petal disc at the rear. Both the brakes feature dual-piston calipers.The Ninja RR Mono will slot below the Ninja 300R and the aforementioned specs should help Kawasaki make the bike significantly cheaper than its parallel twin engine-equipped sibling. That should land the Ninja RR Mono into a head-on battle with the Honda CBR250R and the upcoming Yamaha R25 as far as the Asian market is concerned.However, if Kawasaki does plan to bring the Ninja RR Mono to India, it will have a tough task cut out for itself. On the pricing front, the Honda CBR250R could have an advantage, considering the fact that it is locally manufactured.If Kawasaki goes the CKD or CBU route, then the Ninja RR Mono could end up being close to the KTM 390 Dukes price point which will mean that it will face the same level of heat that the other premium bikes are currently facing. With the upcoming Bajaj SS400 also gunning for a similar space, we are not sure if the Japanese biker-maker would see India as a feasible market for the Ninja RR Mono.As of now, Kawasaki confirms that the Ninja RR Mono will go on sale in Indonesia by March 2014. The pricing, however, has not been announced at this stage.
