Vinay Patil, the son of a farmer from Maharashtra, has cleared the UPSC civil services exam in his third attempt. Patil secured All India Rank 3.
The Civil Services Exam is conducted annually in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview -- by the UPSC to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others

The toppers were selected on the basis of their performance in all three rounds – prelims exam, mains exam and the interview round conducted by UPSC.
Each Centre will have 100 seats for coaching. As many as 33 per cent of total sanctioned seats may preferably be given to eligible female candidates of the SC category.
State governments have been requested to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the candidates/ examination functionaries in their movement, especially those who are coming from containment / micro-containment zone
