Fastag

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry enforced FASTags for toll payments from December 1, 2019. A FASTag is a pre-paid rechargeable tag service that allows the driver to make automatic toll payment, without stopping or waiting in queue. This was done to save time and ensure that every passing vehicle is scanned and accounted for. An activated FASTag, installed on the vehicle windshield, uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to communicate with the scanner that automatically deducts the amount from the linked bank account. FASTags are issued by 22 certified banks and can be obtained from Points-of-Sale (POS) at toll plazas along the National Highway or select bank branches. They were also made available on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon. Users can either self-activate the tag using the My FASTag app (Android and iOS) and link their existing bank account to it; or get it activated at any branch of a certified bank. The mobile app also allows users a prepaid wallet facility from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) where they can load money for deduction instead of directly linking their bank account. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) listed banks will also serve as points to recharge existing FASTag. Users can do so via UPI, cheque, debit card, credit card, NEFT or Net Banking.
