As per the earlier announcement by Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, the Fastag Annual Pass will go live on August 15, 2025. This means, private vehicle owners in India will be able to opt for a new FASTag-based Annual Pass, designed to make highway travel more convenient and predictable. The initiative, announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, targets frequent travellers on national highways and aims to reduce toll plaza congestion through a single upfront payment. Here’s everything you should know.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass will work for non-commercial, private-use vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Once activated, it will remain valid for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever limit comes first. The system will deduct tolls automatically through FASTag, eliminating the need for repeated payments at plazas. The scheme has been developed for those who travel frequently on specific stretches, particularly within a 60 km range.
How much will it cost?
The pass is priced at Rs 3,000, which serves as a one-time payment for the validity period. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), this pricing structure will help frequent commuters save money compared to paying individual tolls for every trip. The annual cap of 200 trips is intended to cover the needs of regular travellers without affecting occasional users.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will enable purchases and renewals through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app, as well as via the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. Users will need to provide relevant documents, including vehicle registration details, to activate the pass. Step-by-step instructions will be published alongside the launch to ensure a smooth onboarding process for motorists.
Eligibility criteria
Only privately registered vehicles will qualify for the scheme. This excludes commercial vehicles, passenger buses, taxis, and goods carriers. The pass is aimed at reducing daily travel costs for individuals commuting to work, school, or other regular destinations via national highways.
Benefits of Fastag Annual Pass
The government expects the Annual Pass to ease traffic flow at toll plazas by reducing cash transactions and processing time. Frequent travellers will benefit from predictable costs, avoiding small but repeated delays in their journeys. By encouraging wider use of FASTag, the scheme also supports the ongoing push toward fully electronic toll collection.
