Throwback to Kangana Ranaut's distasteful comment on Urmila Matondkar, after Ranaut lashed out at Congress’ Supriya Shrinate over objectionable post

As the Kangana Ranaut-Supriya Shrinate matter escalates, netizens remind the actress of her remarks against Urmila Matondkar back in 2020.

Wherever actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut goes, she is known to ruffle feathers. Her entry into politics is no different. The outspoken actress is hogging the limelight. Perhaps, that's a reason why she was given a party ticket into the political battlefield. A day after her Lok Sabha election candidature nomination from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was announced, a "disgusting comment" in a now-deleted tweet by rival Congress party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate has sent BJP leaders Shehzad Poonawalla and Amit Malviya calling for the Shrinate's sacking.

Responding to Shrinate's now-deleted tweet, Kangana Ranaut said that women should rise above such prejudices. She also said that using words alluding to prostitution to abuse a woman was demeaning and derogatory. She said ‘every woman deserves dignity’ no matter what is her job.

"Dear Supriya ji In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii," Ranaut said in a post on X, further adding, "We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers’ challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur... every woman deserves her dignity," she added.

Shrinate later denied posting the same stating that someone else accessed her account to do the aforementioned.

However, netizens were quick to point out that in 2020, Kangana Ranaut, who masquerades her holier-than-thou attitude, had launched a tirade against the drug culture of Bollywood. She said 99 per cent of the industry is exposed to narcotics. When Urmila Matondkar had asked her to introspect on the drug business that happens in her home state of Himachal Pradesh, Ranaut retorted in an interview that Matondkar was not known for her acting skills, and was more like a soft porn actor.

On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) released its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections featuring some big names, including actor Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. The National Award-winning actor who is gearing up for the release of her film Emergency, responded by saying, "I feel honoured and elated to officially join the party. I look forward to be a worthy karyakarta (worker) and a reliable public servant," later, tweeting to express her "unconditional support" for her "beloved Bharat and Bhartiya Janata’s own party, Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP)".

While Satya and Rangeela actress Matondkar, a Shiv Sena member, was recently seen participating in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra three years after she quit Congress party for “petty in-house politics”, Shrinate, the INC national spokesperson, is a former journalist.
