The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, resigned from his position on Sunday morning. He submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra V Arlekar, who accepted it.
The resignation came after Kumar chaired a meeting with party MLAs at his official residence. Sources told PTI, that a new government with the support of BJP is likely to be formed by this evening.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 4 pm today, according to several reports. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nitish to congratulate him. Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar met with JD(U) MLAs while the BJP also called a meeting with all its MLAs and MPs.
Commenting on the development for the first time, Nitish Kumar told ANI, Today, I have resigned as the Chief Minister and I have also told the Governor to dissolve the government in the state. This situation came because not everything was alright...I was getting views from everyone. I listened to all of them. Today, the Government has been dissolved."
Today, at 10 am, BJP MLAs and MPs gathered at the party office in Patna to discuss the latest political situation in Bihar and plan their strategy. BJP President JP Nadda and a few other party leaders are expected to arrive in Patna today at 3 pm by a special charter flight.
