Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s minister of health, education and finance and the BJP's Tripura in-charge, is believed to be the man behind the BJP's turnaround in the Northeast assembly elections 2018. Sharma had even maintained a 100 percent strike rate by the party while the countings in the three states — Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya — were on.

In hindsight, the Congress's decision to let go of Himanta Biswa Sarma cost them dearly in the region as the BJP will now replace the Manik Sarkar-led government in Tripura.
