The family of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, have made shocking accusations against the city police. The deceased's family claimed that the Kolkata Police tried to conceal details of the case by offering bribes and hastily cremating their daughter's body.
"We had to wait for three-and-a-half hours just to see our daughter's face. Her mother begged them to let us see her," the victim's father said.
"The police tried to hush up the case from the beginning. We were not allowed to see the body and were kept waiting at the police station while it was taken for post-mortem. Later, when it was handed over, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of North (Kolkata Police) offered us bribe, which we immediately declined," he added.
Here are the five key questions asked by the victim's parents
-Why did the authorities tell us our daughter had died by suicide without checking?
-Why were the authorities late in conducting the post-mortem and registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in the case? I filed the complaint at Tala Police Station around 7 pm, but the FIR wasn't registered until 11:45 pm
-Why was the autopsy delayed? Why did the police file an unnatural death case?
-Why did it take three hours for us to see our daughter even after we begged the police to let us see her body?
-Why did the hospital not talk to us for seven hours?
What TMC said
TMC, meanwhile, refuted accusations of a police cover-up by the parents of the woman doctor, insisting that a newly surfaced video contradicts their claims by showing the family previously satisfied with the investigation.
The family was quick to respond, claiming that the video was forcibly recorded by the police just after the cremation.
The death of the doctor on August 9 has triggered nationwide protests and led to junior doctors in West Bengal going on cease work.
