August has emerged as the wettest month of the year so far in the national capital, with rainfall around 60 per cent above the normal.

On Tuesday, continuous showers led to waterlogging and traffic jams in several parts of the city.

The normal monthly average rainfall for August is 200.8 mm, while so far this month the city has recorded 321.4 mm, which is nearly 60 per cent above the normal, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. -- PTI

On damage due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu says, "It has been raining a lot since yesterday. Kullu-Manali, Kangra district, and Una district have faced significant damage. We have safely evacuated all the people from there. However, that is their place, and their crops have suffered significant damage. The government will continue to monitor the situation."

Additionally, on the closure of the educational institutions, he says, "We have left the decision to the deputy commissioner. He can give the order to close the institution wherever it is needed..."

The dollar index fell 0.3% to 98.187 after Trump made the announcement in a letter to Cook that he posted on social media. The pullback came after the U.S. currency had registered its biggest daily gain of the month on Monday. "Markets aren’t panicking, but they are recalibrating, earlier rate cuts look more likely after Cook’s removal," said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo in Singapore. -- Reuters

Delhi Weather Updates: As rain lashes NCR, airlines issue advisory

Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to cloudy skies and showers on Tuesday morning. The rain brought some relief from the humid weather, as the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy skies for Tuesday. A yellow alert has been issued for Gurugram and Faridabad.

The rain also had an impact on air travel. Indigo Airlines issued an advisory to passengers, asking them to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. “It is a rainy start in Delhi, with gentle showers expected through the day. Roads may be slower than usual, so if you are flying, do set out early. Our airport teams are on standby to assist,” the airline said.
