At a campaign rally in Latur, Maharashtra, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government, claiming it lacks the understanding and commitment needed to address farmers' issues and youth unemployment. He accused the government of policies that harm Maharashtra’s agricultural sector, including importing soybean derivatives, which has led to severe losses for local farmers, and imposing export bans on key produce like sugar and onions. Pawar, a former Union agriculture minister, argued these policies disregard farmers’ welfare, weakening their economic stability and diminishing Maharashtra's once-strong soybean and cotton production.
Pawar also criticized the diversion of Maharashtra’s projects and industries to Gujarat, questioning if the Prime Minister serves the entire country or solely Gujarat. He argued that the state has fallen behind, citing rising crime, inflation, and injustices against women as indicators of misgovernance. He expressed particular concern about ruling-party MLAs allegedly using threats of violence, which he said indicates deteriorating law and order.
Pawar accused the government of dismantling rural development initiatives, including Congress-founded dairy projects and milk plants, which once benefited local farmers. He urged voters to remain vigilant against false promises and to vote thoughtfully in the upcoming elections.
