The Election Commission of India on Tuesday released the final voter of Bihar after Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of assembly polls.
According to the office of Bihar's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), physical copies will be sent to all District Election Officers-cum-District Magistrates, and digital copies will be provided to all recognised national and state-level political parties.
A report by News18 stated that a total of 48 lakh voters have been removed from the final electoral roll, while 21 lakh new voters were added to the list. A total of 7.42 crore voters are now eligible to cast their ballot in the upcoming assembly elections.
The draft roll, published on August 1, 2025, had listed more than 7.24 crore voters based on the enumeration forms submitted. In comparison, Bihar had 7.89 crore registered voters during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In the revision, 65 lakh voters had been removed from the draft electoral rolls, including those who had died, permanently moved out of Bihar, or were registered as voters in multiple locations. The Supreme Court is also hearing petitions against the exercise.

In the final rolls released on Tuesday, 88,108 voters have increased in Muzaffarpur district, from 32,03,370 in the draft roll to 32,91,478 now. In Patna district, the number has gone up by 1,63,600 and by 30,491 in Nawada district.
During the claims and objections period, 16.59 lakh eligible citizens submitted Form-6 seeking inclusion of their names. According to the Election Commission, over 36,000 voters applied to add their names, while 2.17 lakh sought deletions. Nearly three lakh voters were issued notices for failing to provide required documents.
The final roll has now been updated to reflect these changes. Officials confirmed that all entries identified as deceased, duplicate, or transferred during the SIR process have been excluded from the list.
According to PTI, the schedule for the assembly elections is likely to be announced next week.
The first phase of the elections is likely to be held soon after the Chhath festival in late October. A total of 470 observers are being deployed for Bihar and some assembly bypolls.
According to News18, a briefing of general, police and expenditure observers is also set to take place here on October 3.
The Supreme Court has said that the process can be cancelled if any wrongdoing is found even after the release of the final roll. The top court recently said publishing the final roll does not make it immune from legal action. The final hearing on the SIR process, which has drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition due to its timing, is scheduled for October 7.
