A video of Keir Starmer speaking in Hindi went viral

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday spoke at the Global Fintech Fest held at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. What caught everyone's attention was the fact that Starmer started his address by speaking in Hindi.

"Namaskar Mumbai, Mujhe yaha aakar bahot khushi hui" (Hello Mumbai, I am very happy to be here)" he said. A video of him speaking in Hindi surfaced online.

"I hope that was roughly right, but look it’s fantastic to be here with all of you and with Prime Minister Modi and just to see the room as vibrant and energetic as this is fantastic. India’s financial and economic capital, Namaskar," Starmer was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Starmer’s Hindi drew applause from the audience as well as Prime Minister Modi, who was visibly elated with Starmer's move.

Starmer further said that the UK and India are natural partners in fintech. “I want UK to be number 1 choice for investment in finance & fintech," he said.

Meanwhile, Starmer, on Wednesday, attended a 40-member sit-down dinner at the iconic 68-year-old Khyber restaurant in Mumbai's Kala Ghoda.

According to Mid-Day, some of the items that were on the menu for the UK PM nad his delegation included Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Kagani, Jeera Aloo, Dal Makhani, Steamed Rice, Reshmi Broccoli, Chicken Reshmi Kebab, Palak Paneer and Chicken Rara, among others.

“It is a proud moment for all of us at Khyber to have hosted the UK Prime Minister. For over five decades, Khyber has embodied India’s culture and hospitality, and this visit reaffirms our place as a landmark in Mumbai’s dining legacy and history,” Ishaan, CEO of Khyber said, according to the Mid-Day report.
