The family members of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, revealed the disturbing condition in which her body was found.
A relative of the family, who accompanied them to the hospital, said her legs were 90 degrees apart. Recounting the time, the relative, in an interview, said the trainee doctor's father was allowed to go inside and see her body after three hours.
"He (father) was only allowed to click a picture, which he showed us when he came outside. She had no clothes on her body. Her legs were 90 degrees apart... This cannot happen unless the pelvic girdle breaks, which means she was torn apart," the relative said in conversation with Lallantop, India Today TV’s sister channel.
Reportedly, an assistant superintendent of Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital was the first to call the family of the doctor who was brutally raped and mercilessly killed. The victim's father said that the official called the family and said that their daughter "died by suicide".
The relative also revealed that the trainee doctor's specs were broken and there were shards of glasses in her eyes. He added that she was choked to death.
The post-mortem report of the girl has revealed that civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, the accused in the case, violently assaulted the victim when she attempted to resist. The postgraduate trainee doctor endured such severe injuries that shards of glass from her broken spectacles penetrated her eyes, leading to extensive bleeding.
The post-mortem report also mentions cut marks on the victim’s hands and face, with injuries resulting from being slammed against a wall. The accused reportedly covered her mouth to muffle her cries, which resulted in additional injury marks. The assault led to her strangulation, with further evidence of rape indicated by injuries to her private parts.
According to a News18 Bangla report, Roy was intoxicated at the time of the attack. Additionally, cut marks on Roy’s hands and face suggest that the victim struggled to defend herself.
On Wednesday, a team of senior CBI officers, who reached Kolkata, began its investigation into the case after the Calcutta High Court ordered for the transfer of probe from the Kolkata Police to the central agency.
The Kolkata Police handed over Sanjoy Roy to the CBI after his medical tests were conducted at the state-run SSKM Hospital.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Amit Malviya targeted the ruling party in the state over the incident and said, "Kolkata is rife with speculation that elusive suspects in the RG Kar MCH rape and murder case are closely linked to Mamata Banerjee’s confidant(s) in the ruling Trinamool."
