Jammu and Kashmir Attack: 'Falcon Squad' terrorists from The Resistance Front indiscriminately fired on tourists in Pahalgam

Multiple people were killed and several other injured in a brazen terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region on Tuesday. While there has been no official announcement so far, a PTI report said that at least 26 people were shot dead in the terror attack outside a resort in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley. Multiple TV reports said that two foreigners were also killed in the dastardly attack.

Pahalgam terror attack live: Amit Shah lands in Srinagar; to hold security review

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached Srinagar and will be holding a security review. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government issued some helpline numbers. In a related development, a PTI report said that a businessman from Karnataka’s Shivamogga was killed in the attack. The report cited the family confirming the news. As the Centre and Omar Abdullah administration spring into action, here are the top developments from Jammu Kashmir's Pahalgam:

  • US President Donald Trump said that US stand with India against terrorism and offers support to Indiaposts. "Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!," he posted.
  • Indian Navy Officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (aged 26 years) has been killed in the Pahalgam attack. He was posted in Kochi and got married on 16 April.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin extended condolences to President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. " Esteemed Mrs President, Esteemed Mr Prime Minister. Kindly accept the sincere condolences over the tragic consequences of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, whose victims were civilians — citizens of various countries. This brutal crime has no justification whatsoever. We expect that its organisers and perpetrators will face deserved punishment," he said.
  • US Vice President JD Vance extends condolences to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
  • Multiple reports citing police sources said that the Falcon Squad of The Resistance Front is under scanner for its alleged role.
  • The Resistance Front, which is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed the responsibility of the attack.
  • Reports say that as many as 6-7 terrorists were involved in the attack.
  • An India Today report said that the terrorists recced the tourist areas and hotels between April 1 and 7 before launching the attack in Baisaran Valley, a mountain-top meadow 5km from Pahalgam.
  • A News18 report quoting eyewitness accounts said that the gunmen were dressed in military fatigue. They reportedly made enquiries about the religion of the tourists before shooting them from a close range.

  • Several media reports say that Delhi has been put on high alert following the attack. Cops are keeping a close watch on tourist spots in the National Capital.
