Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election Dates Latest News: There will be a total of 87.09 lakh voters in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 44.46 lakh are males, 42.62 lakh are females, 3.71 lakh are first-time voters and 20.7 lakh are young voters, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said.

Jammu and Kashmir Election Dates Announcement Latest News: The Election Commission of India announced the full schedule of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections on Friday. Addressing media in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the polls will be held in three phases.

The dates are - September 18, September 25 and October 1. ECI chief Rajiv Kumar said that the counting of votes for the Jammu and Kashmir results will be declared on October 4.

J&K has 90 assembly seats. Out of these, 74 Assembly constituencies are of General category, seven are marked SC candidates and nine for ST candidates. In terms of voters in J&K, the poll panel said that there will be 87.09 lakh voters.

Out of these, 42.62 lakh are females and 44.46 lakh are males. J&K will see 3.71 lakh first-time voters in these polls. Poll panel said that 20.7 lakh will be young voters in J&K.

The final voter list will be published on August 20, a day after the Amarnath Yatra concludes on August 19.

"After 1987-88 this is probably for the first time an election is happening in phases... it will be a new experience. For National Conference, I can say we have been preparing..." National Conference leader and ex-CM Omar Abdullah was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Earlier, a delegation of the poll panel had visited Srinagar between August 8 and August 10 to review the security preparedness.

According to the poll panel, conducting elections in north Kashmir may be challenging. Several districts have been marked as sensitive. These are Anantnag, Budgam, Shopian, Pulwama Baramullah, Bandipore, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Kulgam along with Srinagar have been marked as sensitive regions in north Kashmir. Similarly, in south Kashmir, Samba, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Riyasi have been labelled as sensitive areas.

In the Lok Sabha elections that were held earlier this year, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 58.46 percent of voter turnout. This was the highest the J&K saw in nearly four decades. The last Assembly Election in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014. Back then, the polling was carried out in in five phases.
