Two Indian Army para commandos went missing on Tuesday night in the dense Gadool forest area of Anantnag in South Kashmir, prompting a large-scale search operation by joint security forces.
The two commandos reportedly went missing amid heavy rainfall on Tuesday, and contact with them could not be re-established.
Top security officials told CNN-News18 that a major rescue operation, including choppers and local support, was launched after the army lost contact with its two jawans.
According to police officials, the soldiers were part of a cordon-and-search operation launched in the dense forests of Gadool as part of an ongoing anti-terror drive.
The Gujjar and Bakarwal communities have also been roped in to assist in the ground search, an official said, News18 reported.
Sources told News18 that the commandos had ventured into the area based on specific intelligence inputs but did not return to base. The Army has maintained that the adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the situation.
