Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday gave a fiery counter to West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over her "warning" to PM Modi and cautioned her against threatening his state.
The Trinamool Congress chief had warned BJP over violence in West Bengal amid anger over the Kolkata rape incident, saying that if her state burns, then the fire will also spread to Assam, Northeast and even Delhi.
Hitting back at Mamata, Sarma warned the West Bengal CM not to "burn India with her politics of failure".
"Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Don't even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language," he said.

Earlier, during a public rally in Kolkata, Mamata claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using his party to spread fire in Bengal over the gruesome Kolkata rape & murder incident.
"Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair," Mamata Banerjee said.
The August 9 incident, which has caused nationwide outrage, has become a political flashpoint between the ruling TMC and opposition parties like BJP.
On Wednesday, BJP called for a 12-hour Bangla Bandh to protest over crimes against women in the state.
Mamata on Wednesday said an amendment to existing laws will be passed in the state assembly next week to ensure capital punishment to convicted rapists.
Banerjee said that she would sit for dharna outside Raj Bhavan if the governor delays in giving assent to the amended bill or forwards it to the President for ratification.
