The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Bengaluru Urban on October 23, prompting the Karnataka government to declare a public holiday for all schools and advise IT, BT, and private companies to allow employees to work from home (WFH) on Wednesday, October 23.
Bengaluru District Commissioner Jagadeesha G said that anganwadi centers, private, and government schools across all taluks in Bengaluru Urban district will remain closed. However, higher education institutions, including degree, postgraduate, diploma, engineering, and ITI colleges, will continue to function.
This is the third time schools have been shut in Bengaluru due to rainfall in just one week. To compensate for lost instructional hours, the government has directed schools to conduct extra classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. The commissioner also urged parents, principals, and students to avoid waterlogged areas for safety.
