In a second major drug haul within a week, Delhi Police have seized 200 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 2,000 crore in west Delhi, an official said on October 10. This seizure is suspected to be linked to a previous recovery of 562 kilograms of drugs, valued at over Rs 5,000 crore, from southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur.
Officials told PTI, a raid was conducted in west Delhi's Ramesh Nagar, and authorities are investigating further connections. According to a report by NDTV, The Special Cell of Delhi Police tracked the drug supplier using GPS, ultimately narrowing in on him at Ramesh Nagar. Though the accused fled to London, the police successfully confiscated the drugs.
This seizure is part of the same syndicate involved in last week’s bust, which saw the recovery of 562 kilograms of cocaine. Over the past week, the police have seized a total of 762 kilograms of drugs valued at over Rs 7,500 crore, making it the largest drug haul in India, as per a report by NDTV.
Last week’s operation, involving the confiscation of more than 500 kilograms of cocaine, marked the biggest drug bust in the capital to date. Four individuals were arrested in connection with that raid, which took place in south Delhi.
Authorities told NDTV that the Special Cell arrested Jitendra Pal Singh, also known as Jassi, at the airport in Amritsar, Punjab, as he attempted to flee to the United Kingdom. Singh, a UK resident for the past 17 years, is suspected to have ties to a pan-India drug smuggling network with links to organized crime in both the UK and Dubai. Singh’s escape attempt was foiled after police issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) against him.
During the interrogation of suspects, the name of an Indian citizen, Virendra Basoya, now living in Dubai, surfaced as part of the drug syndicate's operations.
In a related incident, two Afghan nationals were arrested last week after being caught with 400 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cocaine in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area. Additionally, a Liberian national arriving from Dubai was arrested under the NDPS Act of 1985 for drug trafficking.
The Delhi Police continue to investigate the syndicate’s international links and operations across Delhi and Mumbai.
