A 34-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh died by suicide at his residence in Bengaluru. Atul Subhash, who worked at a private firm, left behind a 24-page suicide note in which he accused his wife and her relatives of harassment.
Initial investigations suggest that Subhash had been facing marital issues, and his wife had filed a case against him in Uttar Pradesh. Before taking the drastic step, he sent the suicide note via email to several people and shared it in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was part of.
According to the police, Subhash hung a placard in his house that read “Justice is due”.
Before taking the extreme step, he allegedly pasted important details on a cupboard, including information about his death note, vehicle keys, and a list of tasks he had completed and those still pending, the officer said.
What did Subhash say before dying by suicide?
“My wife has registered nine cases against me. Six cases are in the lower court and three in the high court,” Sharma said in the video he recorded before taking this drastic step.
Sharma stated that one of the cases, filed in 2022 against him, his parents, and his brother, include charges such as murder, dowry harassment, and unnatural sex, among others. However, his wife later withdrew the case.
In another case, Subhash claimed that during cross-examination, his wife admitted that the murder charges she had previously filed, alleging that her father’s death was due to Sharma demanding a large sum of money from him, were false. She clarified that her father passed away in 2019 after a long battle with chronic diseases, including diabetes.
Sharma also claimed that his wife demanded a monthly maintenance of Rs 2 lakh for herself and their son.
According to Sharma, his wife had initially filed a domestic violence case against him, which she later withdrew. However, she subsequently filed a new domestic violence case against him. She also submitted two applications to expedite the proceedings of several cases filed against him.
