Five days after Bengaluru resident Atul Subhash was found dead at his apartment after accusing his wife and her family of harassment, the city police have now decided to seek help from their Uttar Pradesh counterparts to seek their assistance in tracing the accused in the suicide case.
On Monday, Subhash was found hanging at his Munnekollal residence. He left behind a 24-page suicide note accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment. An FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Atul's brother against his estranged wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha, brother Anurag and uncle Sushil.
The accused were then booked in a case of abetment of suicide by the Marathahalli police. They have been charged with demanding Rs 3 crore to withdraw cases against Atul and Rs 30 lakh for visitation rights to see his four-year-old son.
The Indian Express reports that the Bengaluru police has confirmed that a team from Marathahalli police was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. "The investigating officer will determine whether to issue notices or take the suspects into custody," the report quoted a senior officer as saying.
According to reports and videos going viral on social media, Atul's estranged wife Nikita and her brother Anurag fled their home in UP's Jaunpur late on Wednesday night. Videos doing the rounds on social media showed the duo leaving home on a motorcycle at around midnight.
A PTI report quoted a police officer as saying that Nikita Singhania and her son Piyush left their home in the Khowa Mandi area on a motorcycle at around 1 am on Thursday and have not returned since.
Meanwhile, Jaunpur SP Ajaypal Sharma said on Thursday that they were yet to receive any official communication from Bengaluru police regarding the case. Kotwali police station in-charge Inspector Mithilesh Mishra also said that no orders have been received yet to arrest Nikita Singhania and the other accused.
Nikita and Subhash married in April 2019. Nikita filed a case against her husband and in-laws accusing them of dowry harassment.
