High blood pressure, often known as  the ‘silent killer' because it shows minimal symptoms before striking, afflicts millions all over the world. If you often experience persistent headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath, it may be a subtle sign that your blood pressure level is above normal.

High blood pressure causes extend beyond mere lifestyle factors. The American Heart Association highlights the role of genetics, age, and environmental factors that contribute to hypertension. Adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle is the key to managing high blood pressure. Following a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients and low in sodium is necessary. Also include foods that promote heart health.

Avoid these foods if you are dealing with high blood pressure:

Say no to high sodium: Avoid high-sodium foods like processed meats, canned soups, and salty snacks, as these contribute to water retention and increased blood pressure. The American Heart Association recommends limiting sodium intake to support optimal heart health.

Avoid excess caffeine and alcohol: These are good in moderation. However, excessive intake of caffeine can lead to a temporary spike in blood pressure. Similarly, excessive alcohol consumption is linked to hypertension.

Abstain from fried foods: Processed and fried foods often contain trans fats, which can contribute to arterial inflammation and increase blood pressure levels. Opting for fresh, whole foods is always a healthier choice.

Sweets no more: High sugar intake, especially from sugary beverages and sweets, can lead to weight gain and insulin resistance. This can elevate blood pressure. Always choose natural sweeteners and limit added sugars.

Salty foods: Foods with high added salt, such as certain condiments, pickles, and canned vegetables, can significantly contribute to high blood pressure. Remember to read labels and choose low-sodium alternatives in order to manage hypertension.
