The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has entered into a seat-sharing agreement with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The two parties, who are part of the opposition bloc INDIA, agreed to a 4:3 seat-sharing formula in the national capital, wherein AAP will contest on four seats while the grand old party will field candidates in three seats.
Addressing a joint press conference in Delhi, Congress leader Mukul Wasnik announced that the AAP will contest on the New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and the East Delhi seats, while his party will fight on Chandni Chowk, Northeast Delhi and the Northwest Delhi seats.
In Delhi, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has nominated Kuldeep Kumar for East Delhi, Somnath Bharti for New Delhi, Sahiram Pehalwan for South Delhi and Mahabal Mishra for West Delhi.
Meanwhile, the BJP will contest all seven seats independently. Recently, it announced five names from Delhi for the forthcoming elections.
The saffron party has fielded Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Manoj Tiwari from Northeast Delhi and Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi. Of the five seats, only Tiwari has been able to get a renomination.
Notably, just before the BJP released its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, its MP from East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir, requested the party leadership to relieve him of his political duties.

The key constituencies that are likely to see tough competition are New Delhi, West Delhi and South Delhi.
In the high-profile seat of New Delhi, former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's daughter Bansuri will make her Lok Sabha debut against Somnath Bharti of AAP, who is a three-time MLA as well as lawyer. West Delhi will see former Congress Lok Sabha MP Mahabal Mishra, who now represents AAP, against former South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
As for South Delhi, BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who has been associated with various parties including NCP and Congress, has been picked against Tughlakabad MLA and councillor from the seat, Sahiram Pehalwan.
For the 2024 polls, the saffron party is betting big on fresh faces and has repeated only Manoj Tiwari this time, while dropping its four sitting MPs.
Meanwhile, both AAP and Congress are hopeful that their united challenge will help break BJP’s winning streak in the national capital.
