Panvel is one of the most populated cities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and is divided into three parts: Old Panvel Town, New Panvel East and New Panvel West. The city is about 300 years old and was once famous for its rice market. Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) established in the year 1852 is considered to be the oldest municipal council in Maharashtra.
