Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit number allotted to every employee who contributes to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF). It is a master key to handle multiple PF accounts with different employers. You can check your PF balance, request withdrawals or transfers, and avail different online services offered by the EPFO using your UAN.
Even when you change jobs, your UAN still doesn't change, linking all your former and previous PF accounts with one another. It minimizes the hassle of paper-based PF transfer and provides smoother access to your passbook, claim status, and KYC services. Without your UAN, all EPFO services are inaccessible to you online.
How to find your UAN on the EPFO website
To check your UAN online, visit the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal official website at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/. On the home page, click on the "Know your UAN" link below the login box. This will take you to a new page where you'll be prompted to enter your mobile number and a captcha code.
After you have entered your details, click on "Request OTP." One-time password will be sent on your mobile number through SMS. Verify your mobile number through OTP. After verification, you will be asked to enter your name, date of birth, and your Aadhaar number, PAN, or EPF member ID. If your details are found in the database of the EPFO as you had entered, your UAN will be sent on your mobile number through SMS.
Other ways of checking your UAN
If you are unable to access your UAN from the website portal, there are a few simple modes of getting the same. UAN is sometimes mentioned by employers in salary vouchers on a monthly basis, so check your recent payslip. You can also ask your HR or payroll department of your company to give the same.
You can also access EPFO services through the UMANG app. If you happen to be logged in to the app and go to the EPF section, your UAN can be seen under your service details or profile.
Things to do after you receive your UAN
After you have obtained your UAN, you must then activate it on the EPFO Member e-Sewa website. Activation allows you to select a password and log in to your account in order to see your PF passbook, edit your KYC, and request transfer or withdrawal. Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account linking to your UAN facilitates faster processing of claims and improves your experience of EPFO services in general.
Make sure to maintain your UAN and associated mobile number up to date so that you don't miss reminders and online services.
Your UAN is your key to hassle-free Provident Fund management. Need to check balance, raise a claim, or plan a transfer? With your UAN activated and available, your EPF experience is smooth and hassle-free. With the convenience of online access and multiple means of retrieval, there's no waiting to be done—check and activate your UAN today.
