Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has secured a mandate to lead strategic IT transformation at The Warehouse Group (TWG), one of New Zealand’s largest retailers, as part of a multi-year partnership aimed at modernising technology systems and streamlining platforms across its retail value chain.

Under the agreement, TCS will overhaul TWG’s managed services, reduce technology complexity, and support workforce development through digital and AI upskilling. The partnership is expected to cut licence and managed-services costs by up to $40 million over five years.

“This partnership allows us to go deeper,” said Mark Stirton, Group Chief Executive Officer at TWG. “TCS will build on our current cost initiatives and unlock the capability and capacity to obtain more value from the technology investments we've made to date… and help free up our technology teams to focus on what matters most, delivering more value for our customers, communities, and shareholders.”

TCS said it will help TWG reduce technical debt, standardise platforms, and drive service-level improvements through stronger governance and transparent reporting.

“We are proud to be a strategic partner to The Warehouse Group for this pivotal phase of transformation,” said Girish Ramachandran, President – Growth Markets at TCS. “Leveraging our global expertise in retail technology, data and AI, we are committed to supporting TWG in streamlining their systems and enhancing capabilities through AI adoption.”

TCS has operated in New Zealand for several years, working with local enterprises on digital transformation initiatives. It said the TWG deal builds on its global experience with leading retailers and its suite of AI-driven retail platforms, including TCS Omnistore and TCS Optumera.

The partnership with TWG builds on TCS' retail sector experience, where it works with the world's top 10 global retailers and many others partners. TCS generated consolidated revenues of over US $30 billion in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025.
