Madhabi Puri Buch, the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), struck an optimistic chord by expressing her bullishness on India while highlighting the significance of this age.
In her speech at the 59th Annual Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, on March 30, Buch affirmed that this is an extraordinary time to be both 25 years old and 60 years old.
Buch emphasised that while her generation had the privilege of witnessing the dawn of a new India, it is the younger generation that will have the opportunity to experience the pinnacle of its success.

Addressing the B-school graduates, Buch stressed on the incredible opportunities that lay ahead for them. "My generation was very fortunate... We participated in the dawn of a new India. Your generation, in my view, is even more fortunate... You are on the way to seeing the high noon of a new India... And, all the amazing opportunities that it offers," Buch said, underscoring the potential and possibilities that awaited the graduating class to embark on their professional journeys.
She further shared her enthusiasm and optimism for the opportunities that India provides in the current era. "Everywhere, there is opportunity... for growth, for inclusion, for entrepreneurship, for breaking the mould... And, for leading the world. It’s a wonderful time to be 25. Interestingly, it is also a wonderful time to be 60!"
As an esteemed alumna of the prestigious institute, Buch fondly reminisced about the two years spent on campus, where fun intertwined with challenges, shaping unforgettable memories. Reflecting on her time at IIM, Ahmedabad, Buch recognised that learning how to cope with the pressures was among the most invaluable lessons she gleaned from her experience.
