India and France are set to hold bilateral talks on December 13, as part of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit, to discuss international governance of AI and follow up on ongoing bilateral cooperation on digital technology.
Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar will meet with French minister delegate for Digital Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot on December 13, the second day of the GPAI Summit being held in New Delhi.
The bilateral talks will happen a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged nations participating in the GPAI Summit to work together on a global framework for artificial intelligence.
This will be Barrot's second official visit to India and during his stay in the country, the French minister will also visit the headquarters of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), where he will learn more about the country's digital public infrastructure and be given a demonstration on Aadhaar, a release by the Embassy of France in India said.
The French minister will meet representatives of India's AI ecosystem and French digital tech companies to discuss ways of boosting ties between the French and the Indian tech ecosystems.
In 2019, India and France declared a joint commitment to ensure cooperation in cybersecurity and digital technology. In July 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Paris and renewed the MoU on digital technology between MeitY and its French counterpart.
