Body acne, also known as acne, when occurring on the back, is a common skin condition characterised by the presence of pimples, blackheads, or cysts on areas of the body other than the face. It typically develops on the chest, back, shoulders, and buttocks, where oil glands are more prevalent.

Factors such as sweat, tight clothing, and friction exacerbate the condition. Treatment often involves topical solutions, lifestyle adjustments, and occasionally medical interventions to reduce inflammation, clear pores, and prevent future breakouts.

Dealing with body acne can be frustrating, but there are several natural remedies you can try to help alleviate it according to Noida-based dermatologist Sudha Narang.

Tea tree oil: Known for its potent antibacterial properties, tea tree oil effectively reduces inflammation and targets acne-causing bacteria. Dilute it with water or a carrier oil to prevent skin irritation, then apply directly to affected areas for optimal results in calming and healing acne-prone skin.

Apple cider vinegar: With its natural acidity, apple cider vinegar restores the skin's pH balance, alleviating inflammation and acne symptoms. Mix it in a 1:3 ratio with water, apply using a cotton ball, and rinse after a few minutes to harness its cleansing and pH-regulating benefits.

Aloe vera: Known for its soothing and antibacterial qualities, fresh aloe vera gel offers gentle relief for inflamed skin. Apply it directly to affected areas to reduce redness, inflammation, and bacterial growth, promoting healing and skin regeneration.

Honey and cinnamon mask: A potent combination, honey's antibacterial properties paired with cinnamon's antimicrobial benefits create a nourishing mask. Mix them into a paste, apply evenly to the skin, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off. This mask moisturises, fights bacteria, and reduces inflammation, enhancing skin clarity and texture.

Exfoliation: Essential for preventing pore blockage, regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells. Use a gentle scrub or exfoliating cloth in the shower several times a week to maintain smooth, clear skin and minimise the likelihood of acne breakouts.

Change bedding and clothing: Regularly changing bedsheets, pillowcases, and clothing, especially after sweating, helps prevent the accumulation of oils and bacteria on your skin. This simple habit reduces the risk of pore blockage and acne flare-ups, supporting overall skin health and clarity.
