In the ever-evolving world of skincare, exosome skin therapy has emerged as the latest groundbreaking advancement in dermatology that promises to rejuvenate and revitalise your skin. This advanced therapy utilises the power of exosomes, tiny vesicles derived from stem cells, to promote skin healing and regeneration.

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles, small particles released by cells that facilitate communication between cells. These vesicles are rich in proteins, lipids, and genetic material, which can influence the behaviour of surrounding cells. In the context of skincare, exosomes derived from stem cells are used to enhance skin regeneration and repair.

“Just like you and I are communicating through a language, the cells in our body also communicate to each other through exosomes,” explains Dr Geetika Srivastava, founder of Influennz Skin & Hair Clinic, located in Hauz Khas, New Delhi. “They have a unique ability to repair damaged DNA, reverse the signs of ageing, and rejuvenate the skin.”

How Does Exosome Skin Therapy Work?

Exosome skin therapy involves the application of exosome-rich serums or solutions to the skin. These exosomes penetrate the skin's layers, delivering their potent payload of growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive molecules. The therapy aims to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and improve overall skin health. “At Influennz, we have three variations of this treatment—Exosome Lighten, Exosome Smooth, and Exosome Rejuvenate,” informs Dr Srivastava. “For instance, in Exosome Lighten, a laser pass is done on the face, at first, that removes the tan and works on the pigmentation. Next, exosome serum is introduced deeper into the skin through microneedling, followed by a sheet mask for better penetration of the serum. Lastly, a collagen mask is applied to promote smoothening and tightening of the skin.”

Benefits of Exosome Skin Therapy

Anti-ageing: Exosomes promote collagen synthesis, which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a more youthful look.

Improved skin texture: The regenerative properties of exosomes can enhance skin texture, making it smoother and more even-toned.

Reduced inflammation: Exosome therapy can help to calm inflamed skin, making it beneficial for conditions like acne and rosacea.

Faster healing: The presence of growth factors in exosomes accelerates the skin's natural healing process, making it effective for post-procedural recovery.

Enhanced hydration: Exosomes can improve the skin's ability to retain moisture, leading to better hydration and plumper skin.

The Procedure: What to Expect

Exosome skin therapy is typically performed in a clinical setting by a trained professional. Here is a step-by-step overview of what you can expect during the procedure:

Consultation: The process begins with a consultation to determine if exosome therapy is suitable for your skin type and concerns. Your practitioner will assess your skin and discuss your goals.

Preparation: On the day of the treatment, your skin will be cleansed thoroughly to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup. Depending on the method used, a mild exfoliation may be performed to enhance the penetration of exosomes.

Application: The exosome-rich serum or solution is then applied to the skin. This can be done in various ways:

Microneedling: A device with tiny needles creates micro-channels in the skin, allowing the exosomes to penetrate deeper layers. This method also stimulates collagen production.

Topical application: The exosome serum can be massaged directly onto the skin, allowing the bioactive molecules to absorb naturally.

Injection: In some cases, exosomes may be injected into specific areas of concern, such as deep wrinkles or scars.

Aftercare: Post-treatment, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which usually subsides within a few hours. Your practitioner will provide aftercare instructions, including the use of gentle skincare products and sun protection.
