Prime Minister Narendra Modi turns 75 years old today. The Prime Minister has always been an advocate for healthy lifestyle and discussed the necessity of yoga and hydration balanced with a healthy diet in his speeches. In this year’s Independence Day speech too, he spoke about the alarming rates of obesity in India and asked the people to start taking care of their health.
His focused and disciplined way of living has inspired many people. PM Modi does not follow modern fitness crazes, high-end gyms, or anything of the sort. His fitness regime over the years has always been simplistic, traditional, and has plenty of discipline. Let’s focus on the daily rituals that maintain his health and energy at the age of 75.
Discipline from Dawn
According to various sources, Modi wakes up at 4 am. His morning rituals consist of walking, yoga (surya namaskar), and some form of meditation. These daily practices keep him calm, centered and balanced despite his packed schedule.
A Simple, Sattvic Diet
PM Modi reportedly follows a mostly vegetarian and simple diet, focusing on foods that are light, nourishing, and easy to digest. According to reports, his breakfasts are modest — think boiled or roasted items, upma, khichdi, kadhi, khakra — often prepared with minimal added richness. He also starts his mornings with ginger tea. As per reports, an important part of his routine is not eating after 6 PM, which helps regulate his digestion and rest.
Fasting as a Lifelong Practice
In a podcast interview earlier this year with Lex Fridman, Prime Minister revealed that fasting has been the biggest secret of his well being in his 70s for over 50-55 years.
The prime minister said that fasting sharpens the senses, strengthens discipline, and boosts mental clarity. He views it not merely as abstaining from food but as a way to reset, cultivate self-control, and elevate awareness.
During Chaturmas (a four-month monsoon period), the prime minister said he eats one meal in 24 hours.
He also follows Navratri fasts twice a year, where he observes strict fasting — during one of them, he consumes only hot water for the fast; during another, he eats only one type of fruit per day for the nine days.
Sleep, Rest & Boundaries
The PM is reportedly known for getting by on just 3.5 hours of sleep per night. Alongside this, his strict rule of early dinners helps regulate his body clock and digestive health.
What can we adopt from PM's health regime?
You don’t need to follow every practice to benefit. Here are some ideas that many can adapt:
