If you are a night owl, then waking up groggy and struggling to align with the 9 to 5 routine aren't your only challenges. There’s more to it: you may also be at a higher risk of depression compared to the early bird. A recent study from the University of Surrey, published in PLOS One, sheds light on why night owls, those who prefer staying up late, might be at a higher risk of depression compared to early risers.
The research surveyed 546 university students, examining their sleep patterns, mindfulness levels, rumination habits, and alcohol consumption. The findings suggest that certain lifestyle factors associated with late-night habits could contribute to increased depressive symptoms.
