Ranbir Kapoor, celebrated for his exceptional acting and captivating charm, has always been a subject of media attention, particularly regarding his personal life. In addition to his impressive Bollywood career, his relationships with prominent actresses Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif have frequently made headlines. His romantic journey, marked by highs and lows, has left fans deeply engaged and curious. At one point, Deepika Padukone expressed regret over giving Ranbir a second chance, admitting that he didn’t deserve it.
The actor’s romantic relationships have long been a topic of public fascination. Ranbir first began dating Deepika in 2007, during the filming of their debut films, and their romance blossomed further while working on Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008.
However, their relationship ended in 2010 under difficult circumstances. Deepika later revealed details of the heartbreak, sharing the emotional toll of Ranbir's infidelity. In an interview with leading magazine, she candidly confessed, “I have never cheated or strayed when I'm in a relationship. If I'm going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It's better to be single and have fun.”
She added, “I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded... But not everyone thinks like that. I caught him red-handed. It took me a while to get out. But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed.”
After Deepika’s emotional revelation, Ranbir acknowledged his mistakes. In a heartfelt interview with Stardust magazine in 2011, he openly admitted his shortcomings: “Yes, I have cheated, out of immaturity, out of inexperience, out of taking advantage of certain temptations, out of callousness. You realise it now, when you grow up and you value it more why be in a relationship, why be committed to someone when you cannot be committed?”
While his breakup with Deepika was painful, it wasn't long before Ranbir’s relationship with Katrina Kaif began to bloom. The two stars grew closer on the sets of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and their relationship, though private at times, garnered significant media attention. Despite the drama surrounding his personal life, Ranbir was unafraid to admit his past mistakes, and his willingness to publicly acknowledge his faults was commendable.
Deepika and Ranbir eventually moved on. While Deepika found happiness with Ranveer Singh, whom she married in 2018, Ranbir later started a relationship with actress Alia Bhatt.
Ranbir, who has always been open about his feelings for Deepika, described their equation in a 2018 interview: “The amount of love I have for Deepika is like family. It's very warm; it's about care, about being proud of her. The facet of love, care and respect has changed but changed for the better. It's not your immature 'I love her' kind of feeling. It's mature and that has come with age. Also, we have both positively moved on with our lives.”
Despite the difficult end to their relationship, Deepika and Ranbir share a mature and respectful bond today, and their fans continue to cherish their on-screen pairing. Their chemistry, both on and off the screen, has made them one of Bollywood’s most beloved jodis.
In a candid conversation with Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath, Ranbir opened up further about his relationships, admitting that the public's perception of him as a "playboy" and a "cheater" was difficult to navigate. “When I started, I was always regarded as this playboy guy who was just dating actresses. Let me tell you—I was in New York for three years, nine months—from 2000 to 2003. I didn’t date one girl. I was always an Aashiq. So, I made myself believe that my first girlfriend in school when I left for New York, even though I was not with her, was my love of my life. And now it’s over; let’s just focus on work.”
He continued, “Of course, I dated two very successful actresses, and that just became my identity. That he is a Casanova; I was labelled a cheater for a very large part of my life, and I still am. I don’t care about it, but it used to bother me because it’s not entirely true.” Ranbir went on to explain that he chose to keep details about his relationships private, and while people had a lot to say, he never felt the need to expose the full story. “People don’t know the entire story, and I would never speak about somebody like this in public because it’s a very private thing. But things were spoken about me, and if it makes that person happy, I don’t have any conflict with that person,” he added.
The actor also shared how the public perception of his personal life bothered his parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, especially when people labelled him a Casanova. “It used to bother me when it used to bother my parents, but I later realized that it isn’t bothering them; I only used to think that,” he concluded.
