Actor Vijay Varma, who recently garnered acclaim for his performance in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, is now eyeing Hollywood opportunities.
In a recent interview with Variety, Vijay opened up about his aspirations to break into the global film industry. He revealed that he is actively seeking the right opportunity to explore Hollywood and make his mark internationally.
Discussing his ambitions, Vijay said, "It’s a very good time to make that jump," indicating that talks have already begun regarding international representation. The actor expressed excitement about the industry's evolving trend of "color-blind casting," which has allowed Indian actors like Ishaan Khatter and Ali Fazal to land significant roles, not necessarily bound by ethnicity.
With Hollywood becoming more inclusive and offering diverse roles to actors of different backgrounds, Vijay believes this is the perfect time for Indian actors to make a global impact.
Vijay noted that the increasing acceptance of Indian and South Asian actors in various roles is a positive shift for the industry. "With international producers and directors looking at Indian diaspora actors and brown actors for a variety of roles, it’s a very lucrative time," he said, emphasizing the growing demand for talent from different ethnicities.
Though Hollywood beckons, Vijay Varma remains focused on his current projects in Bollywood. This year has been a busy one for the actor, with multiple releases, including IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Mirzapur, and Murder Mubarak. His filmography also boasts notable projects like Nandita Das’ Manto (2018), Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy (2019), and Darlings (2022).
Looking ahead, Vijay recently wrapped filming for Vibhu Puri’s Ul Jalool Ishq, a poetic drama co-starring Naseeruddin Shah, and is currently working on Matka King, a web series set in the 1960s and 70s, directed by Nagraj Manjule.
Despite his Hollywood dreams, Vijay continues to choose roles that challenge him and resonate with audiences.
