Taarak Mehta’s former Sodhi aka Gurucharan Singh says he tried to clear the air between Asit Modi and Jennifer Mistry

Gurucharan Singh, known for his role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as Roshan Sodhi, has recently addressed the controversy that shook the show's set last year.

The drama unfolded when Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who portrayed Mrs. Roshan Sodhi, accused the show's producer, Asit Modi, of sexual harassment. An FIR was subsequently filed against Asit Modi, along with operation head Sohail Ramani and executive producer Jatin Bajaj.

In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Gurucharan Singh shared his perspective on the issue. He revealed that he made considerable efforts to mediate between Jennifer and Asit Modi. “Main iss baare mein do baatein bolunga. Main Jennifer ji se mila tha, unse kaafi baat hui. Main Asit bhai ke paas bhi jaata tha kyuki woh mere kuch cheezein unse thi… Maine ya koshish ki thi ki un dono ki mulakat ho jaaye. Ye maine 100 percent koshish ki thi. Kuch aisa ho gaya tha ki lag raha tha ki mere pe koi baat na ho jaaye iss cheez pe. Kyuki kabhi kabhi jo help karne jaata hai na woh bekasur se kasurwaar ho jaata hain. Maine ye try kiya tha ki dono ki mulakat ho baith ke usko sort out kare”

He also explained his initial departure in 2012, Singh clarified, "In 2012, 1 was replaced by the show's producers; I did not leave on my own. There were some contractual issues and disagreements regarding the agreement. They replaced me without informing me beforehand." Gurucharan Singh’s departure in 2012 was followed by his return to the show, only for him to leave once more in 2020.

The controversy began when Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal filed a complaint in 2023, accusing Asit Modi of making unwanted sexual advances. The FIR led to significant legal proceedings, and the verdict was in Jennifer’s favor. As a result, Asit Modi was ordered to pay ₹5 lakh as compensation.
