In a powerful and unexpected collaboration, Bollywood veteran Sunny Deol is set to make his debut on Netflix with a high-octane action feature directed by Siddharth P Malhotra. The film, produced by Suparn Verma, is an official Hindi adaptation of the 2007 Hollywood thriller Death Sentence, which originally starred Kevin Bacon.
Reports of Sunny Deol’s foray into the streaming giant surfaced earlier this week, stirring excitement among fans and industry watchers alike. Now, Pinkvilla has confirmed that the film will be directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, best known for his work on Hichki and the series Maharani.
A source close to the project shared exclusive details: “Sunny Deol is making his Netflix debut with an action-packed feature film, and the same will be directed by Siddharth P Malhotra. The film is based on Death Sentence and has been adapted in Hindi by Suparn Verma.” The adaptation is said to blend intense emotional beats with gripping action sequences, in line with Deol’s cinematic persona.
The film is currently untitled and is slated to go on floors in July 2025. It will reportedly premiere in 2026. Sunny Deol has allotted bulk dates for the project and is being paid a significant fee to lead the film. “This is a major commitment, and the makers are planning a large-scale, gritty action film for the streaming audience,” the source added.
Sunny Deol is currently juggling multiple projects. He is shooting for Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, which wraps up by the end of June. Following that, he will complete Lahore: 1947, and then move on to a brief schedule of Ramayana with Nitesh Tiwari, where he plays the role of Hanuman. Once these are done, Deol is expected to fully shift focus to the Netflix original.
“He is in talks for multiple other films, scheduled to take off later this year. And of course, there is Gadar 3 in the writing stage. Sunny Deol is on a roll,” the source noted.
Sunny was last seen in the Gopichand Malineni-directed Jaat, which received a mixed response at the box office. A sequel to Jaat is also being planned for 2026.
With this Netflix project, Sunny Deol is not just expanding his horizons—he’s making a powerful statement about adapting to new platforms while staying true to his action-hero roots.
