Zubeen Garg died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore at the age of 52. Popular musicians paid tribute to the late singer on their social media handles.

Singer and songwriter Zubeen Garg, known for popular tracks in Assamese, Hindi and other languages, died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was 52.

He was in Singapore to perform in the three-day North East Festival, which was scheduled to begin on Friday.

The organisers of the North East Festival have issued a statement following Zubeen’s death. The statement reads, “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg's passing. While scuba diving, he experienced breathing difficulties and was immediately given CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead in the ICU around 2.30 pm IST.”

However, several Indian musicians like Armaan Malik, Papon, among others, have mourned the death of  Zubeen and paid an emotional tribute to the late singer.

Shaan shared a picture of Zubeen on his Instagram and wrote, “Zubin is truely a King !! Lived on his own terms .. Left on his own terms. Once again I realised how I haven’t kept in touch with such a darling friend, such a warm, uncomplicated, pure hearted gentle soul .. and regretting why I didn’t call him every time o thought about him .. have so many crazy memories together but all from  a very very long time ago .. guess will meet him in another dimension someday.. Cheers Brother.”

Papon also paid a tribute, sharing a picture of Zubeen on Instagram. The caption reads, “This is so shocking! The voice of a generation! Gone to soon. At a loss of words! Lost a friend. Lost a brother. A big void. Praying for a peaceful journey of his soul.”

Adil Hussain tweeted, “Devastated and shocked by the news of Zubeen Garg's sudden death in an accident in Singapore. I am so very sad... His contribution to Assamese music and culture is extraordinary... He will live amongst us through his songs... Dear Zubeen I remember you with lots love and fondness.. May his singing soul rest in peace and God bless his soul... Good bye Zubeen.. Until we meet on the other side... Keep singing with your beautiful Voice and make Gods Happy.”



Arman Malik took to his Instagram Story and shared a picture alongside the caption, “I am devastated and in disbelief. May his soul rest in peace.. #ZubeenGarg.”

Adnan Sami wrote, "I’m extremely shocked & saddened by the sudden & tragic death of my dear friend & extremely talented Zubeen Garg. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his family. I can’t even begin to imagine how devastated they must be at this trying moment. May God bless Zubeen’s Soul & give his family strength to deal with their unimaginable grief.… RIP… #zubeengarg #adnansami."




Pritam Chakraborty wrote on his Instagram, "Zubeen losing his life in an accident is just the most terrible and saddest news. I'm still trying to come to terms with it... My deepest condolences to Garima and his family. Om Shanti."
