Idli Kadai box office collection day 2: Dhanush’s directorial venture crosses Rs 20 crore mark

Dhanush’s directorial venture Idli Kadai has turned into one of the most talked-about Tamil releases of the season. The film, which hit theatres on October 1, continues to show strong momentum at the box office, collecting over Rs 21 crore net across India within just two days of release.

On its opening day, Idli Kadai, which has Dhanush playing the lead, impressed with a collection of Rs 11 crore, of which a massive Rs 10.35 crore came from Tamil Nadu alone.

The positive word-of-mouth and Dhanush’s star power helped the film sustain on Day 2, with early estimates suggesting an additional Rs 10 crore haul. This brought the two-day total to approximately Rs 21 crore, setting a solid foundation for the weekend ahead.

The film’s performance in Tamil Nadu has been exceptional.

According to box office reports, overall occupancy in the state was close to 60% on October 2. Morning shows started slower at around 35%, but the numbers rose steadily as the day progressed. Afternoon shows touched 70% occupancy, evening screenings held at 69%, and even night shows maintained a healthy 65%.

This consistent turnout reflects both local curiosity for Dhanush’s directorial project and the strong emotional connect of the story.

In the Telugu-speaking regions, however, the film witnessed a more modest response, with an average occupancy of 23%.

Morning shows were particularly weak at around 11%, but evening and night shows saw slight improvements, pushing the average closer to 28%. While the Telugu belt hasn’t matched Tamil Nadu’s enthusiasm, trade analysts believe the weekend could see an upswing if word-of-mouth spreads further.

Directed by Dhanush, Idli Kadai features an ensemble cast including Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, Shalini Pandey, and veteran actor Rajkiran in pivotal roles. With such a strong lineup and Dhanush’s dual presence behind and in front of the camera, the film has managed to generate wide interest.
