Seventeen years after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, former Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who also serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, has raised concerns over Pakistan’s inaction against the main accused in the case.
Speaking on the anniversary of the attacks, Nikam said that despite repeated queries and evidence provided to Pakistani authorities, crucial perpetrators such as Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi have not been brought to justice.
“When we visited Islamabad, the Pakistani Home Minister raised questions about our inquiries. We asked about action against the conspirators. They had arrested only a handful, but what about the trials? Pakistan never informed us of the outcomes,” he noted.

Furthermore, Nikam highlighted the testimony of David Headley, the American terrorist who had scouted targets for the attacks. “Headley clearly testified in court about the ISI links of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, and Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi, including the emails they sent. We compiled dossiers and sent them to Pakistan, yet the government has remained silent,” he said, questioning why action has not been taken against the accused.
The former prosecutor further urged the international community to take steps, including cutting off financial aid to Pakistan, if the country fails to act against individuals linked to terrorism. “If the Pakistan government believes in democracy, why are they scared to act against these people?” he asked.
The remarks come as India, today, observes the 17th anniversary of the devastating attacks, which claimed over 170 lives and left a lasting impact on the city and the nation.
