A frightening chapter in the private life of comedian and TV personality Park Na-rae has finally closed in court. A 37-year-old man, identified as Jeong, has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaking into her Yongsan-gu residence on the night of April 4 and stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.

As per allkpop, The Seoul Western District Court heard that Jeong attempted to offload some of the stolen items but was eventually caught. He insisted he hadn’t realised the home belonged to Park Na-rae, claiming the burglary wasn’t targeted. Still, police uncovered that this wasn’t his first attempt — weeks earlier, while still on probation, he had tried to break into another house in the same district.

In its ruling, the court acknowledged Jeong’s confession and the fact that he returned the stolen property. But judges were firm that these did not outweigh the severity of his actions, his prior record, and, importantly, the victim’s own plea for a strong sentence. “The seriousness of the offence cannot be overlooked,” the court stressed as it handed down the jail term.

Two others, referred to as A and B, were also punished for their involvement. Both had negligently received some of the stolen goods. The court fined A 2 million KRW (approx. USD 1,400) and B 3 million KRW (approx. USD 2,100), while looking upon their prior criminal history and the value of the items they got.

Fans of I Live Alone were deeply affected by the news of the break-in, as Park Na-rae has frequently allowed cameras and viewers to enter her private space.

Many viewed the intrusion as a breach of the warmth and transparency she has long shared with the public, in addition to being theft.

The sentencing may bring legal closure, but the emotional scars of knowing one’s home has been invaded — the one place meant to feel safe — are harder to heal. For Park Na-rae, and for those who admire her, the hope is that this decision at least offers a measure of peace.
