‘Harry Potter’ film franchise fans closer home were elated when the news broke last month that the ‘Harry Potter’ actor Tom Felton, who played Harry’s rival Draco Malfoy in the franchise, has been roped in to play a leading role in Bollywood director Hansal Mehta’s upcoming series ‘Gandhi’, starring Pratik Gandhi in the titular role.

The web series will see Pratik Gandhi in and as Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, while Felton has been cast as Josiah Oldfield, a pivotal figure who helped Gandhi during his time living and studying law in London.

Pratik Gandhi, whose film ‘Dedh Bigha Zameen’ released last week on Jio Cinema, and who is busy shooting for Mehta’s series ‘Gandhi’ has shared BTS pictures on social media. The photographs show an all-suited-up Tom playing his character with Pratik. The candid shots have taken the internet by storm.

In the images, one can see Tom’s character tasting some soup or stew that Pratik’s Gandhi rustled up in the London kitchen, as well as sharing a smile over what seems to be a document.

The multi-series biopic is an adaptation of historian Ramachandra Guha’s biographies on Mahatma Gandhi, his times, contemporaries and legacy: 'Gandhi before India' and 'Gandhi: The Years that Changed the World', and is being produced by Applause Entertainment.

Felton, who became an international star with his performance as Draco Malfoy in eight "Harry Potter" movies based on author JK Rowling's best-selling book series, joined the show's cast along with seven international actors. Mehta had earlier posted on Instagram, “We’re in the thick of our shoot. Thrilled to be directing this stellar international cast — Tom Felton, Libby Mai, Molly Wright, Ralph Adeniyi, James Murray, Lindon Alexander, Jonno Davies, Simon Lennon #Gandhi #GandhiFilmingNow."

The series, which will also feature Bhamini Oza as Kasturba Gandhi.

“I’m excited to be part of the journey of telling the story of Gandhi's early years in London. It's an important aspect of history that hasn't been told on screen before, and to be working with Hansal & Pratik is an honour and pleasure,” Felton, 36, had said earlier in a statement.

Pratik Gandhi earlier worked with Hansal Mehta on the popular series ‘Scam 1992’.

Season 1 of the series ‘Gandhi’ is slated to release in early 2025.
