After weeks of uneven box-office collections, December has started on a high note, with the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar clocking Rs 100 crore.
Its three-day collection stands around Rs 106 crore, among the highest this year.
The spy-thriller directed by Aditya Dhar opened its business with Rs 28.60 crore on December 5. while its weekend business picked up pace with Rs 33.10 crore and Rs 44.80 crore.
The film is the third-highest weekend opener this year among Bollywood films, surpassing Thamma at Rs 103.50 crore and Housefull 5 at Rs 91.83 crore.
The top opening weekend performers are Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 at Rs 179.25 crore and Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava at Rs 121.43 crore.
Singh's spy thriller, with its over Rs 28-crore business, has also recorded this year's fourth-best opening day collection once again, leaving behind Ayushmann Khurrana's Thamma that earned Rs 25.1 crore on the day of its release. Dhurandhar is a distant fourth, with War 2’s Rs 52.5 crore, Chhaava’s Rs 33.10 crore, and Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar’s Rs 30.06 crore opening day collections.
After a run of box-office misfires, Singh has bounced back, delivering a blockbuster with Dhurandhar.
Singh's 7th highest-grossing venture
The film is his seventh highest-grossing venture. His top performer remains the 2018 release Padmaavat, which had earned over Rs 300 crore despite many controversies and backlash. Another release in the same year, Simmba, had also done strong business at the box office, with collections to the tune of Rs 240.22 crore.
Bajirao Mastani at Rs 184 crore, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani at Rs 153.30 crore, Gully Boy at Rs 139.98 crore and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela at Rs 110 crore are the four top-performing films of Ranveer Singh.
Along with Singh, the film's ensemble—including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan—is earning strong audience praise.
Collections of December box-office releases are in key for 2025 India box office to hit record numbers of Rs 13,000 crore. The cumulative box office for 2025 releases until October stood at Rs 11,077 crore, 24 percent higher than the same period in 2024.
Top exhibitors expect the big titles in December to add Rs 2,000 crore to the overall India box office.
Some of the other big releases to hit theatres this month include Avatar: Fire and Ash, Dharmendra's last release Ikkis, among others.
