Noted playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar attempted suicide at her residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday (March 4). The singer was rushed to hospital on time and is currently receiving treatment.

According to reports, the singer consumed a lot of sleeping pills and was found unconscious at her residence.

She was then taken to the hospital and her condition is said to be stable but she is on ventilator support.

Reports further said that it was the security guard of her apartment building who alerted the residents after Kalpana did not open her door for two days.

Her neighbours immediately contacted the police, after which the procedures were followed.

The exact reason behind her suicide attempt is still not known.

Kalpana's husband was in Chennai at the time of the incident and he rushed to Hyderabad to be by his wife's side the moment he heard the news.

Kalpana, who is the daughter of noted playback singer TS Raghavendra, took part in Star Singer Malayalam. She went on to won the title in 2010.

After her win, she worked with many renowned composers, including Ilaiyaraaja and Oscars winner AR Rahman.

Kalpana, who hails from a family of musicians, started her career at the tender age of five.

Kalpana has recorded over 1,500 songs in multiple languages and besides singing she has also tried her hand at acting. She was seen in a brief role in Kamal Haasan-starrer Punnagai Mannan.
