Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has taken the legal route against her husband, Austrian businessman Peter Haag, filing a domestic violence case and seeking Rs 50 crore as compensation for loss of earnings.

The petition, filed in a Mumbai court on November 21, has led to a formal notice being issued to Haag. Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag married in 2010 and share three children: Winston, Viraaj and Arthur.

In her petition, the 47-year-old actor describes Haag, 48, as a “narcissist” and a “self-absorbed individual” who shows “no empathy” towards her or their children. She claims she endured emotional, physical, sexual and verbal abuse throughout the marriage, forcing her to flee their home in Austria and return to India. Represented by the legal team at Karanjawala & Co., she has sought Rs 10 lakh per month in maintenance and requested that the court restrain Haag from entering her Mumbai residence. She is also asking for custody of their children, who currently live with Haag in Austria.

According to the plea, Celina Jaitly says Peter Haag “prohibited” her from working after the birth of their children, limiting her professional opportunities and stripping her of financial independence. She added that she was only allowed to take on “small projects with the permission” of Haag. The petition also notes that Haag filed for divorce in an Austrian court in August this year.

The couple welcomed their first set of twin boys in 2012. In 2017, Celina Jaitly gave birth to another set of twins, one of whom died from a hypoplastic heart condition - a phase she has publicly described as one of the most emotionally difficult periods of her life.

Despite these struggles, she had often shared affectionate posts about Peter Haag in the past.

Last year, she penned a long romantic anniversary tribute on Instagram, recalling how he proposed soon after meeting her parents. “That very same night before departure, he proposed to me with a ring,” she wrote, adding that her mother had predicted she would find her “right one” in that very spot.

Her post reflected on their journey: “The wrong one will find you in peace and leave you in pieces, but the right one will find you in pieces and lead you to peace.” She ended with: “Marriage should be above all small bickerings … Marriage should be above everything that makes us human.”

Alongside her personal turmoil, Jaitly has also been seeking help for her brother, Major (retired) Vikrant Jaitly, whom she says has been “illegally abducted and detained” in the United Arab Emirates. A Delhi court recently directed authorities to facilitate communication between him, his family and Jaitly, after she alleged that the Ministry of External Affairs has been unable to secure basic information about his health or legal status since his detention in September 2024.
