South Korean actress Lee Si Young, who is known for her roles in My Beautiful Bride, Boys Over Flowers, among others, recently announced a huge life update on her social media. The actress revealed on Instagram that she is pregnant with her child.
Si Young also explained that she conceived using a frozen embryo created with her ex-husband five years ago. The actress also made it clear that she made the decision to undergo the procedure independently, without her ex-husband, Cho Seong-hyun’s consent.
She added in her Instagram post, “Although the other party did not consent, I’m prepared to bear the full weight of my choice.” The actress further noted, “There may be many difficulties and uncertainties ahead, but even so, I want to believe that this was a meaningful and worthwhile decision.”
However, Si Young’s ex-husband, who is a businessman, has previously revealed that she didn’t consult him about the second child. He said, “She made the decision to become pregnant, even though I did not agree with it.”
Cho Seong added, “But now that there will be a second child, I will do my best to fulfill my responsibilities as a father.” He added, “Since we’ve already been co-parenting our first child, we will continue to communicate and cooperate for the birth and upbringing of the second.”

During their marriage, Lee and her ex-husband underwent artificial fertilization and had embryos frozen for potential future use in a second pregnancy. However, the couple's plans were put on hold when they divorced due to irreconcilable differences. With the frozen embryos' expiration date looming, Lee decided to move forward with implantation.
Lee Si Young and Cho Seong-hyun exchanged vows in September 2017. The couple welcomed their first son, Jung Yoon. The couple filed for divorce earlier this year and officially announced their separation in March through the Seoul Family Court.
